  Jesus' Physical Resurrection = Take the Ransom Back?

  in my "study," we have encountered the matter of whether or not jesus' physical body rose from the dead.

  i brought up a couple of scriptures that seem to indicate physical (john 2:18-22 and john 10:17,18).

  the jw's i am "studying" with explained how, although those verses may appear to indicate physical, jesus couldn't have meant that because if he physically rose from the dead, he would have taken back the ransom.. now that i know the wt reasoning on this, can someone point me to another source, link, book, article, etc.

  probably. but more probably, it wasn't jesus at all. after all noone knew him, even after spending a whole day with him.

  but in the end the whole ransom-story is so far from any logic anyway. i mean come on:

  god - who makes the rules - damns all mankind because of some fruit he wanted for himself and to remove the curse he makes his own son bleed to death (as a ransom to himself). if i were god i would have simply forgotten about that stupid fruit...

  Strange Memorial Story

  a couple of quick strange memorial stories.. the elder giving the talk one year went astray and talked about the comet, hale bop possibly being a celestial sign or some nonsense like that.

  he spent a good ten minutes on this.

  it put the crowd into silence, although he was a great speaker.

  i had a few discussions after that drama (i saw it twice... ).

  i mentioned that it was all fiction and there's no record whatsoever of the life of chrisitans back then. we don't even know if any of them left jerusalem. you can imagine the look on some faces and how they tried to refute this using josephus etc. but josephus does not mention anything about christians in jerusalem at that particular time...

  What video games were banned when you were a JW teen?

  i'm not a jw, but i'm kind of studying to be one though.. now that's out of the way, i remember mortal kombat was banned within my home-my mom isn't too fond of blood in video games..but yet, she plays dinosaur crisis sometimes....but then again, that was when i was 9...lol now that i'm 15 and i wanted mortal kombat 9 (still) my mom stil lsaid no...but then again, she would let me play it online..i dont know why..its strange, but hey, whatever works for her and me i guess.. .

  um...lets see..any shooting games, or any games that has blood in it, she wont let me get.

  so i can still play fighting games, just not the ones with blood...eh, oh well.i'm surprised she even let me play "dead or alive" and "soul calibur"!

  mortal kombat. the sub-zero finishing move was even described in some awake magazine.

  i was afraid of someone seeing me playing warcraft II because of the demons that appeared later in the orc campaign.

  we regularly made LAN parties playing empire earth (prophets and priests in there, doing miracles) and counterstrike (shooter). one of the younger guys who regularly attended the sessions turned us all in to the elders. everyone stopped talking to him afterwards ;)

  later everyone startet to play world of warcraft, most of us chose an undead witch or warlock controlling a demon. some got problems with the elders because of that. but most of us were already on our leave / fade already anyway.

  some bought games, had a bad conscience and threw them away again, just to buy them later, because they liked them so much. a few of us just asked them to give them to us instead of dumping them. pretty much the same story with music too.

  edit: i also remember having a bad conscience after playing wolfenstein, doom, hexen and heretic. i never played ultima because of the pentagrams (and because i didn't own a computer anyways, so i always had to play with friends). i remember some of my friends owning a amiga 500 playing strip poker all the time.

  that's one of the worst parts, right. but that doesn't make them any worse than say scientology, islam or aum shinrikyo.

  true. i have been a victim of this. i know many people of other religions (like roman catholic) though, who went through similar experiences and worse (sexual abuse etc.).

  > Homicide by denying blood transfusions

  true. i've been in the situation. this is arguably the worst part. there are loads of groups (for example homeopaths) that prevent proper medical treatment, leading to peoples deaths.

  > The destruction of careers and lives pursuant to their "this generation" teachings

  another bad one. no worse than any of those tele-evangelists trying to rob money from the meek.

  > And the fact that they are antichrist.

  well, they don't blow themselves up in jewish discos... but yeah, this is probably like discussing if the genocide in ruanda was just as bad as the holocaust.

  psacramento, the catholic church is quite tolerant where it lost it's power, but there are still many countries where they are controlling much of people's lives, including shunning of those who leave. where i live this is no longer that big of a problem in larger towns, but it is in villages.

  i'd even say, it's kind of releaving to see that i'm not the only one who grew up as a weirdo due to some faith company.

  PS: i want to add, they always see themselves as oh so special in every account, but i won't do them that favor. they aren't special in anything, not in their doctrines, not because of using the name of g. hofer, not because of disfellowshipping, not because of having their own bible, having some old crazies directing them or anything else. it's religion, baby.

  i live in an area where the catholic church still has everything in it's grip. many of those who leave the catholic church are treated pretty much the same way as JWs treat disfellowshipped/disassociated or otherwise shunned people. no big difference there. and even worse the muslims around here. they'd even kill their own dauther or sister for "honor", when she'd decide to not live up to their religions morals or simply does not believe it anymore.

  so yeah, JWs are quite bad and probably the worst thing you know and definitely the worst thing i personally experienced in that context, but boy, there are far worse organisations out there.
